Ljuboten Mountain, also known as “Big Duke” by the KFOR U.S. soldiers, is one of the peaks located in the Šar (pronounced: Shar) Mountain Range between the borders of Kosovo and Macedonia.

Ljuboten Mountain’s height is reported to be 2,498 m (8,196 ft) and is a favorite site visited by Kosovo and Macedonian locals, military members, as well as international sports climbers.  I was told by one of the locals that this was an alternate site when the Winter Olympics were held in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia in 1984 which now hails in Bosnia-Herzegovina since the brake-up of Yugoslavia.

This was the view from my apartment’s kitchen balcony where I was able to enjoy a cup of coffee and enjoy this incredible view.  The houses you see are typical of the homes found in Kosovo.
